Artists at The Hughenden
Art is a part of life at The Hughenden.
The permanent display of art in the Victorian Rooms includes:- Archibald winner Wendy Sharpe, portrait of a young Victorian girl artist unknown circa 1850s, Barry Humphreys by portrait artists Jules Sevelson, still life by Stephen James, Dickerson charcoals.
The Reading Room exhibits original artworks from much loved Australian children's illustrators.
Jenny Shaw watercolour artist has exhibited at The Hughenden. Several of her works are on display and hand painted watercolour cards are available for purchase.

Special exhibitions are exhibited in the Sun Lounge including the annual Indigenous Art Day curated by respected Aboriginal art academic Dr Darby of Outback artists.

Stephen James' powerful portraits of renowned Australian author Amanda Lohrey and Director of the Brandenburg Orchestra Paul Dwyer hang on the walls of the grand staircase.

Stephen James' powerful oils have been exhibited widely in Australian galleries. His work is primarily figurative with influences from the German and Australian impressionism. His painting often explores mythical themes in a contemporary context. His portraits of author Amanda Lohrey and the Director of the Brandenburg Orchestras hang in the grand stairwell of The Hughenden.

Jules Sevelson is a highly respected portrait painter, member of the Portrait Artists of Australia with his work found in collections in Australia and the USA. He is known for his portraits of significant identities including singer Kate Cebrano, boxer Kostya Tszyu, children's author Moya Simons, the former NSW Labour Treasurer Michael Costa. The whimsical portrait of comedian Barry Humphreys and the evocative work of song-writer singer Tory Gervay hang in the foyer.

Music and Theatre at The Hughenden
Bronte Horder entertains on the baby grand piano on Thursday nights for the pleasure of visitors and our guests. Dylan Kelly performs late on Saturday evenings, with versions of the latest top 40 songs on the grand piano.

Introducing Phillipe Klaus

Hailing from Germany, Switzerland, Brisbane and Perth, jazz pianist Phillipe Klaus puts his own spin on anything from jazz standards to classical music. Phillipe holds a Bachelor of Music majoring in Jazz Piano from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music and has worked as a composer, arranger and performer around the country.
Theatrical and musical events are part of Hughenden life with evening of songs, murder mystery dinners, theatres such as Focus Theatre, the Dorothy Parker Soirees.
The Hughenden and The Comedy Store have partnered together, to be able to offer our guests special packages including drinks, dinners and tickets to events at The Comedy Store - which is located only a 10minute walk away from The Hughenden.
