Palour Magic at The Hughenden
Thursday 25th March 2010 at 8pm
Bruce, who was recently confirmed as a member of The Magic Circle, has created one of his trademark Bespoke Magic shows especially for the Hughenden...
'Magic & Fairytales for Grown-ups (of all ages)'.
"The intimacy and old world charm of The Hughenden's parlour makes it the perfect venue for magic," Bruce Glen said.
"Audiences can sink into the huge leather couches after dinner and enjoy a journey into magic, woven around the hotel's history and inspired by the charm and wonder of some of our greatest storytellers," he said.
The historic Hughenden has long been the home of literary associations such as the Society of Children's Book Writers & Illustrators; The Story Tellers Guild; and the Children's Writers and Illustrators Network.
The walls of the Victorian Italianate Hughenden are adorned with original works by local artists and an extensive collection of children's book illustrations.
Experience 'Magic & Fairytales for Grown-ups (of all ages)' on the last Thursday of every month - beginning Thursday 25 March 2010.
Show starts at 8pm in our Victorian Lounge
Tickets can be purchased from The Hughenden Hotel on 02 9363 4863.

Childrens Writers and Illustrators Network
The inspiration for the Sydney Children's Writers' & Illustrators' Network originated in Melbourne 1983, when Hazel Edwards and Jill Morris initiated a network of children's authors and illustrators to share their work, successes, problems, publishing outlets and friendship. Original members included Jenny Pausaker, Robin Klein, Edel Wignell, Mary Small.
In 1995, The Hughenden, became the home of the Sydney Children's Writers' & Illustrators' Network chaired by Susanne Gervay. Open to all contracted or published children's creators throughout Australia and internationally, monthly meetings began at The Hughenden in Sydney's Paddington-Woollahra.
Writers and illustrators drop in when they are in Sydney, not on tour or deadline to share good news or bad, get answers and camaraderie. The meetings range from last year's Christmas function where 50 creators partied to the small band of 5 writers in chaotic Book Week. The numbers are irrelevant, as Network is that place of connection and meeting of the vibrant community of children's writers and illustrators in Australia.
Jeni Mawter, Moya Simons, Gus Gordon, Jenny Hale, Vashti Farrer, Felicity Pulman, Deborah Abela, David Morris and many more are part of Network. Creators include much loved, best selling international fantasy authors like Kate Forsyth, multi award winning authors such as James Roy, new young authors William Kostakis, dynamic playwright Sue Murray, extraordinary illustrators such as Sarah Davis, nervous new creators just starting on their pathway, with educational books or stories in School Magazine.
An exhibition of works of the Network is on permanent display in The Reading Room of The Hughenden.
Meeting the 1st Wednesday of every month (except January) from 10:30am to 12:30am. Following the meeting there is the option to stay for a light lunch and to explore The Hughenden. The group is open to contracted children's authors & illustrators to discuss publishing & other events in the world of children's books.
