Frequently Asked Questions

At the Hughenden we pride ourselves on our ability to assist our guests.  We are always happy to answer any questions a guest might have.  Often we asked similar questions so to assist our guests we are answering some of more frequently asked questions below.

  • Do you have parking?

Yes.  However we only have 10 parking spots and 45 rooms so it is vital to book in advance.  You are not likely to get a spot when you arrive on the night.

  • Is parking free?

No.  As places are limited we do charge a parking fee of $30 a night

  • If parking is full are there other options?

Yes.  Queen Street has a 2 hour limit for on street parking between 8am and 6pm on one side of the street and 8am and 9pm on the other side of the street.  There are also a number of nearby streets that do not have the 2 hour limit such as Halls Lane, Lang Road and Centennial parklands.  Our staff will be happy to point you in the direction of any of these and provide maps.

  • Do you have a lift?

No.  We are a Heritage listed property so do not have a lift.  However there are only two floors and our staff are more than happy to assist you with your luggage to your room should you need assistance.

  • Are all your rooms' pet friendly?

No.  We only have a few rooms set aside as pet friendly and these do not change.  If you have a pet it is vital that you let us know,

Also let us know if you have an allergy we can put you into a room that hasn't had any pets in it.

  • What is a pre-authorisation?

A pre-authorisation is a validation of a credit card, and protects both the merchant and cardholder from increasing fraud incidents.  The pre-authorised amount is set aside by the credit card company for a period of 3-5 working days.  The pre-authorisation will affect your available funds and/or spending limit.

  • What time does reception close?

We have 24 hour reception so there will always be someone on the desk.  The main hotel doors close at 10pm, so just press the doorbell for assistance

  • How do I get to your hotel from the airport?

The fastest and most direct way is in a taxi.  This should take 30-40 minutes and cost $35-$40 depending on traffic and time of day.

For the more economical a train runs from the Airport to Kings Cross and costs $17 for an adult.  A connecting train to Edgecliff, the closest train station to our hotel, is $3.  However there is still a 15 minute walk from Edgecliff to the Hughenden Boutique Hotel.

  • How do I get to your hotel from Central Train Station?

A train to Edgecliff station on the Eastern Suburbs line.  However there is still a 15 minute walk from Edgecliff to the Hughenden Boutique Hotel.

The 378 bus runs from Central to Bondi Junction and will drop you off at the corner of Jersey Road and Oxford Street.  It is then a 5 minute walk around to our hotel down Oxford Street and left into Queen Street.

  • Which is the closest train station and how far is it from there to the Hotel?

The closest train station is Edgecliff and it is a 15 minute walk from there to the Hotel.  The best walking route from the station is right along Ocean Road up the hill, right down Jersey Road, and follow that all the way to Oxford Street.  It is then a left up past the Light Horse Brigade pub and around the corner.

  • How far is it to Fox Studios?

It is only a short 15 minute walk to Fox Studios.  The fastest way is to cross Oxford Street and head down Lang Road.

  • How far is it to the Sydney Football Stadium or the Sydney Cricket Ground?

To walk to the Sydney Football Stadium or the Sydney Cricket Ground should take 10 minutes from the hotel.  You will need to cross Oxford Street and head along Moore Park Road.

  • Are there smoking rooms available?

No you cannot smoke in any of our rooms.  We do have a few smoking areas located around the hotel.  Our staff are happy to indicate these when you arrive and provide ashtrays.  Smoking in the room results in a fine.

  • Is there a minibar in the room?

No.  Light meals, snacks and drinks are available at our bar.  For service at the bar ask at reception.

  • Can I have friends join me for breakfast?

Yes, although as our restaurant is undergoing renovations this may be subject to change at short notice so always check with reception.  The cost for additional guests is $13.

  • Is there a safe in the room?

No, none of our rooms have a safe.  We do have a safe at reception so if you have valuable items that you do not want to leave in your room while you are out we can store them for you.

  • Do you have Wi-Fi?

Yes.  Wi-Fi is available for all rooms except the Terrace apartments.  As these are located across the road from the main building the Wi-Fi does not cover them.  We do have internet cables available at reception that plug into the wall for laptops in the Terrace Apartments.

To access the Wi-Fi ask at reception for the daily internet code.

  • What is your check in time?

Check in is at 3pm.  If you arrive before this we are happy to store your bags at reception until your room is ready.  We do have a large Victorian Lounge in the lobby where you can enjoy a while you wait.  Alternatively you can go for a bit of a walk down Queen Street or Oxford Street to take in the sights or get something to eat.

  • What is check out time?

Check out time is at 10am Monday to Saturday and 11am on Sunday.  A later check out is available but will incur an additional fee.

  • Will my credit card be charged when I make a booking?

If you have booked through our website or directly with us than your credit card will not be charged.  We ask for the card for our cancellation policy.

  • What happens if I want to cancel my booking?

We have a 48 hour cancellation policy so if you cancel your room outside this timeframe you will not incur any cancellation fees.  If you cancel within 48 hours of checking in we do charge the first nights' accommodation.
