From grand residence to historic hotel
Welcome to The Hughenden
Built in the 1870s by Dr FH Quaife, the gracious Hughenden has quite a story to tell!
From grand residence to Masonic hall; nurses' home; dance hall; exclusive ladies college to a derelict and half-hidden shell.
Discovered in the 1990s by author Susanne Gervay and her sister, The Hughenden was restored
as a boutique hotel.
The Hughenden has always strived to offer guests an elegant alternative to chain hotels: a personalised experience and a feeling more like staying at a grand family manor. From the Victorian Lounge and Bar through to each individually styled room, guests are encouraged to find their own favourite space to relax and feel right at home.
Even cherished pets can enjoy The Hughenden's warm hospitality!
As Sydney's premier arts and literary hotel, The Hughenden provides a beautifully intimate venue for events, conferences, launches and exhibitions. And art lovers can savour The Hughenden's wonderful mix of styles and periods on display throughout the hotel.
Enjoying an enviable location at the crossroads of Woollahra and Paddington, surrounded by designer fashion boutiques, stylish restaurants and bars, The Hughenden makes the perfect base from which to explore all that Sydney has to offer.
The Hughenden is now starting a new chapter, undergoing extensive refurbishment to update facilities while maintaining the old-world grandeur, character and familiar comfort that guests have grown to love.
The Hughenden invites guests, families, friends and their pets to become part of the ongoing story.
